The mountain was named "Island Peak in 1952, its located in the middle of the Chhukung valley, like an Island on a sea of ice, it was popular with name of "Imja Tse" in the early '80s. Island Peak (6,189m) is one of the main climbing peaks in Everest Region with an impressive icy face that climb from the Lhotse Glacier.

Summit of the Island Peak is 6,189m high above the sea level. Island Peak climbing trip will set up from Chhukung following you descends from Everest Base camp & Kala Pathar. From the Island Peak Base Camp, it may take two days to summit the peak depending on weather conditions. On our experience it is better to spend two nights at the base camp for acclimatization and training then try the Island summit (6,189m) directly from the Base Camp.

  • Day 1Arrival to Kathmandu.
  • Day 2Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla which takes approximately 30 minutes and trek to Phakding.
  • Day 3Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m.) which takes about 6 to 7 hours.
  • Day 4Rest at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion around the places.
  • Day 5Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche (3,850 m.) which takes almost 5 hours.
  • Day 6Trek from Tyangboche to Dingboche (4,350m.) which takes about 4 and half hours to 5 hours.
  • Day 7Dingboche - Lobuche (4,940 m): 4-5 hour trek.
  • Day 8Lobuche - Gorak Shep (5,170 m) - Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) - Gorak Shep : 7- 8 hour trek.
  • Day 9Gorak Shep - Kala Patthar (5,545 m) - Dingboche (4,350m.): 7- 8 hour trek.
  • Day 10Trek from Dingboche (4,350m.) to Chhukung (4,730m.) which it takes about 2 and half hours.
  • Day 11Trek from Chhukung to Island Peak Base Camp (5,087m) which takes about three hours.
  • Day 12-13Climb to Island Peak (6,189m.).
